CARE/ORPHANAGE PROJECTS - VOLUNTEER FOR A BIGGER CAUSE...

Teach in a school for mentally retarded children or help in a poor home (Orphanage) Mingle with children up to the age of 20 years. Help them with their lessons; teach English and a variety of other subjects, arts/crafts and even music.

 

The orphanage/school is under the administration of “Archdiocese of Thrissur".

You can possibly teach English to the staff or even help improve their communal living area. Volunteers are given the freedom to bring in any new ideas and implement it in the project site

Duration:                                        4 weeks to 12 weeks

Requirements:                               You should be 18 years or older -No qualifications as such.

                                                            LOVE CHILDREN and have a desire to help them

 

Prices:                                               £768 for 4 weeks 

                                                            £105 for each additional week

Work Involved

Your work will be very hands-on as you will be dealing with all of the children - Your work load and responsibilities will depend on your abilities and attitude to your work and you'll assume more responsibilities as you grow in confidence and as the staff's confidence in you grows. You would be supervised all of the time while you are there, and you will be given help and directions. - You have to keep in mind that you are dealing with mentally disabled children and would require lot of patience, love and care for this particular project

 

By playing games with the children you also encourage confidence building. It also encourages children to use English in an informal way, and even with the younger children it gives them exposure to the language at an early age.

You also get a chance to participate in awareness programs and charity works run by the organization for HIV/Aids patients. There is plenty of time for interaction and play. You can possibly teach English to the staff or even help improve their communal living area.

 

Volunteers are given the freedom to bring in any new ideas and implement it in the project site. This is very much a hands-on placement and would require patience and also love for young children. The centre is in desperate need of help and the staff is grateful to any volunteer willing to ease out their workload.
